Golf Tournament to honor Superintendent Nelson and

Raise scholarship funds for MAP Students

ECHO Pacific Construction/MAP Foundation Golf Tournament is right around the corner and this year  the tournament is  honoring Ed Nelson, the Escondido Union High School District Superintendent, who is retiring on  June 30th after 36 years  in education.  It is going to be an  entertaining day  and we hope you will  be a part of this celebration. The class of 2012-13 was officially welcomed by California State University San Marcos President Dr. Karen Haynes at a special breakfast for students and their parents June 6th on the San Marcos campus. Dr. Haynes told the students how excited she was  about their new venture at  CSUSM and was looking  forward to shaking their hands four years from now when they walk across the stage and receive their college diplomas.  Escondido Superintendent Ed Nelson also spoke to the group telling them how their time in college will shape their leaderships abilities in the future.     He told them they are needed by our country and local community to lead us into the future.     MAP Executive Director Jim Wiese, on behalf of the MAP Foundation, congratulated the students on their accomplishments and announced the MAP Foundation scholarship award of a $2,000 per student   ($500 per year for up to four years)   for those who      have met and continue to meet the scholarship criteria.  Photos provided by Don Darrock Photography.                                      
One of Escondido's newest businesses recently held their Grand Opening and presented the MAP Foundation with a check for $1,100 kicking off their support of the community and the MAP college scholarship program, for students in the Escondido Union High School District MAP Your Future, Reach Your Destination program.   Safelite Auto Glass leaders Edward Quan, Max Wry, Aaron Thrasher and Laura Dugger made the presentation during the companies Open House at their new location at 2750 Auto Park Way .   Safelite recently opened their 5000 square foot location in order to better serve the North County Inland area with all of their auto glass needs.  They can be reached at 1-800-800-ASAP (2727).

MAP Foundation Board of Directors and Escondido Union High School Superintendent Ed Nelson receive the ceremonial check from Safelite Executive during the open house.  In addition to the check for $1,100, Safelite also raised $330 additional dollars in the open house raffle which was also donated to the foundation.  Pictured, (l.to r.) are Board Member Mike Dietz, Superintendent Nelson, Board President Lori Pfeiler, Board Member Kate Novak and Safelite representatives Edward Quan and Max Wry.
